Registered Community Based Organization in Kenya.
Our mission is to home young women who have suffered trauma; allowing them time to heal, raise their babies without judgement and have a chance to reform their lives.
With the help of Fikia Dada, these girls are able to complete their education and to learn life and professional skills that will enable them to earn a living to eventually support their young ones.
This will eradicate poverty and reduce the common cycle of having more kids that they cannot support.
Why is there a Teen Pregnancy Crisis in Kenya?
Just to name a few..
Poverty
Poverty pushes girls into activities that expose them to sexual exploitation and having sex in exchange for money and food.
In such situations, young girls are not in a position to negotiate safer sex or are not educated enough on Sexual Health which then puts them at risk of pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, including HIV, and violence such as rape.
Lack of Sexual Education/ Resources
Sexual Education is not part of the curricular system in Kenya and is considered cultural and religiously sensitive.
The main argument has been that providing such information to school going Kenyan youth will be like giving them a license to engage in sexual activity. However, research disapproves this argument.
Early Marriages
Teenage Pregnancy and Early Marriages come hand in hand.
In certain cultures it is still being practiced today. Girls as young as 10 years are married off in exchange for livestock.
Girls that are pressed into child marriage often become pregnant while still adolescents, increasing the risk of complications in pregnancy or childbirth.
Let's talk Female Genital Mutilation
In Kenya, 4 million girls and women alive today have undergone FGM.
Worldwide, the statistics say that number is 200 million.
The risk of FGM depends on certain cultural traditions and beleifs.
Girls from rural areas, living in poor households with less education are at a greater risk.

Furthering our cause is the most important goal of our organization. We seek to support, empower, and provide high quality resources to not only girls, but our local community. Our success isn’t measured in terms of wealth or profit margin, but by the value we provide to those we serve. Learn more about what we do below.
In The Classroom
Reach A Girl Sessions
As well as The Rescue Centre, We hold sessions in Primary Schools for our young girls.
Talking all things Sexual Education, Menstrual Matters and Women Empowerment.
We provide vulnerable girls with Hygiene kits which include sanitary iteams, underwear and soap.

Education
Education is Freedom
Many of our girls who come to our Rescue Centre have come from a background of poverty, therefore have not received an education.
We cater to the girls needs in finding them a school that is best suited.
By putting a girl through school, she'll have more choices and opportunities for employment later in life.
She will help break the cycle of poverty.

Our Volunteering program is based on the ground in Kenya. At Fikia Dada C.B.O, Volunteering is a source of great pride for our community.

Why We Do It?
Because we believe everyone deserves to feel like a part of a family and everyone deserves the right to have access to basic essentials and an education.
Just because these girls were born female in a country with certain cultural traditions or just because a young teen fell pregnant due to lack of education and/ or poverty does not mean she can't reach her dreams.
Our girls must never give up hope.
We must inspire them.

Ameer plays American Football for the Minnesota Vikings and is a Creative Entrepreneur.
He has helped us spread awareness on FGM through his social media platform, raised a great amount of funds to support our girls education for the next 12 months AND he has now got his entire football team involved in the conversation.
